Up is down, back is front, sex is work, rape is sex…..prostitution IS rape

I take no pleasure in writing this. It’s not a topic I want to delve into but I think some hard truths need to be said. It’s all about narratives these days and the accusation of playing the victim gets thrown around a lot, this victim blaming is tiresome and the silencing is obvious.

The same way that society accepted paedophilia, human trafficking is being promoted via the ‘choice’narrative.

Do you know what choice is? Do you know what free will is? These are the basics that you need to remind yourself of before repeating the choice lines.

Prostitution IS exploitation, so when people say they will protect prostitutes from exploitation, what exactly do they mean? Do they mean make sure they get paid enough? THAT would be pimping. Do they mean keep her from harm? What harm? Their narrative depends on the idea that prostitution is safe. I know different.

I have felt fear many times but the fear I felt being sold and put on a ferry to a foreign country topped it all. I had no idea what was happening. Now the pimp lobby will tell you that prostitution is separate from trafficking, they are wrong and serving perpetrators, it is precisely the same thing. The choice narrative causes harm to victims of the industry, it’s soul destroying to have man after man drive you further into destitution. By the time you’re finished, you feel dead inside. Of course not everyone will feel this way and not everyone will admit to feeling this way but it is substantial if you truly listen to those women on the street corners, THEY DO NOT WANT TO BE THERE. The choice line would have you believe otherwise.

It’s astounding that we are aware of women and girls who are being exploited via the industry and we do nothing. That we have somehow declared that we have no responsibility to protect or safeguard. WE LEAVE THEM THERE. We put all women and girls at risk when we allow industry demand to increase. Women are begging for help and still we fail them and you get funding to do just that!!!

How dare you take government money and use it on a project to keep women on the streets!!!

Are we now saying, after the years of preaching about duty of care and safeguarding, that we give up?

This is regressive, not progressive.

If a woman needs to feed her child, show her to the food bank instead of exploiting her.

MEN who buy women are the ONLY party who has any choice or control.

No one has a right to sex although most men believe this to be the case and society has taught them to devalue women. Even the allies, will always put their own needs above women. It’s not surprising the amount of men who support the pimp narrative of choice, they benefit from it whether they buy a woman or girl, rent her or watch women being violated in porn. The kick back is the need to stay in the dark ages where men ruled the earth, now that women are changing the order, they feel threatened.

If we succeed in ending demand and I believe we will, this will threaten the belief system on which every male is taught. The entire sex industry is a problem for everyone, from teaching males they are entitled to subjugation of females.

The view from the street is very different to the view behind a computer screen.

Decriminalisation is a death sentence to all who want to exit, including women from the wider community.

There is NO safe way of being a prostitute, calling it work doesn’t change that fact
